Belle Boyd was a confederate spy who passed information to General Stonewall Jackson during the Civil War. After the war, she became a popular actress in the town. Her childhood home is now a stop on the Civil War Discovery Trail, featuring the Boyd Mason Civil War Museum which displays artifacts relating to the civil war.
